Your REACH Only Representative for non-EU substance manufacturers

EU REACH for Indian chemical manufacturers

Indian exporters of chemicals, dyes, pigments and intermediates to the EU face the same rule as every non-EU supplier: the substance must be registered by an EU importer or by an Only Representative before it reaches the EU market.

Registration from 1 tonne per year OR appointed under Article 8 Covers all your EU importers EU-format SDS required

How Indian exporters usually comply

Many Indian manufacturers appoint an Only Representative in the EU. The OR registers the substance once for the total quantity exported to the EU, and the EU importers named in the OR's records become downstream users. This keeps composition data with one representative and lets the manufacturer add new EU customers without new registrations.

Step by step

1

List substances and volumes

Every substance exported to the EU on its own or in mixtures, with annual tonnage.

2

Check registration status

Inquiry to ECHA and contact with the existing lead registrant.

3

Appoint the OR

Written mandate under Article 8, and a list of the EU importers to be covered.

4

Register and supply SDS

Join the joint submission, then provide EU-format Safety Data Sheets to customers.

Beyond registration

Dyes and pigments are a common source of restricted substances in articles, for example certain azo dyes restricted under Annex XVII of REACH. Screen your products against Annex XVII restrictions and the Candidate List as well as registering them.

Frequently asked questions

Can an Indian company be the registrant under EU REACH?

No. The registrant must be established in the EU: an EU importer, or an Only Representative appointed by the Indian manufacturer under Article 8.

Does the OR cover all my EU customers?

The OR covers the quantities imported by the EU importers it represents for you, and keeps records of those customers and quantities.

Do dyes need anything besides registration?

Yes. Check Annex XVII restrictions, such as those on certain azo dyes in textile and leather articles, and the Candidate List of SVHCs.
